Cruise ship arrives in Manhattan after power outage

MANHATTAN – A cruise ship that has been disabled off the coast of Massachusetts is safely docked in Manhattan.

The Star Pride, carrying 351 people, was found stuck earlier Friday at Buzzards Bay between Woods Hole and Martha's Vineyard. Windstar Cruises, which operates the Star Pride, said the vessel had lost cooling water to the engine systems, causing an automatic shutdown of propulsion and auxiliary engines.

No injuries were reported.

The company said the cause of the shutdown had been identified and corrected and that all ship operations returned to normal on Friday.

A tugboat captain escorted the ship to Newport, where it was moored overnight for an inspection to "ensure the safety of passengers and crew," said Captain Chris Chandler of the Coast Guard. The Coast Guard announced Saturday on Twitter that the ship had passed the inspection.

The ship was approaching the end of a 17-day cruise between Reykjavik, Iceland, and New York.

It was planned to leave New York Saturday for a cruise in Montreal. The Newport Daily News reports that "because of the delay, the liner will make a stopover in Newport on Sunday, as passengers could disembark and visit the city, including its famous mansions.
