Czech Cabinet survives censorship vote on Prime Minister's scandal

PRAGUE – The Czech coalition government has survived a vote of no confidence in Parliament following a fraud scandal involving Prime Minister Andrej Babis.

Only 92 of the opposition MPs voted Friday to oust the cabinet, which is far less than the 101 needed.

Babis faces charges of misusing EU subsidies for a farm that he transferred to relatives, including his son, Andrej Babis, Jr.

The Czech leader was subjected to increased pressure after his son had declared that he had been deliberately kept in Crimea in order to avoid being questioned in this case.

Babis denies any reprehensible act and says that his son was there voluntarily.

Thousands of people gathered last week in Prague and elsewhere to demand the resignation of Babis. Another rally against Babis is scheduled for Friday.
