Dak Prescott can not try to beat the Giants alone on Sunday

Dak Prescott must walk a good line this weekend. He must try to lead the Cowboys to victory over the Giants, but he can not try to do it alone.

If the Cowboys will beat the Giants this weekend, they will need a big game from Dak Prescott. He will have to raise his mediocre reception corps to give the Dallas offensive a significant balance. That does not mean he can afford to try to forget the ground game.

It's all well and good that Prescott has accepted the challenge of beating the Giants in the air. The talented quarterback said those words in response to Landon Collins' safety comments that the Giants would feel comfortable closing Ezekiel Elliott and forcing the Cowboys to beat them in the air. Prescott can not afford to be involved in a personal battle with Collins and the rest of the Giants high school.

Instead, Prescott must accept the reality that his passing game is only present to compliment Elliott and the ground game. His weekly contributions are still essential to his team's success, but he can not overestimate his role in the offensive. The Cowboys are only going to go as far as Elliott's legs in 2018.

The sad truth for Prescott is that he is not talented enough that his group of ragtag receivers behaves like an NFL quality unit. In fairness, there are not many quarterbacks in the league that have this kind of talent. That's how the group of Cowboys receivers is bad. Unless Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady suddenly arrives in Dallas this season, the passing match will remain at the bottom of the NFL standings.

If Prescott wants to play a bigger role in the crime, it might be better to take a page from Can Newton's book. He could experience more success in trying to complete the attack of his team rather than infuse life into their moribund passing attack.

If Prescott lets his ego make the most of him on Sunday, the Cowboys will drop to 0-2 on the season. He has to play hard in the team's concept to bring his team's record back to .500. If he's trying to be a star, there will be big drama in Big D on Monday's arrival.
