Dallas Cowboys: Amari Cooper had her first glimpse of the Cowboys' projector. Here's what he said about the team and its role

FRISCO – Amari Cooper was on Oakland's training ground when an employee approached and told him that Superintendent Reggie McKenzie wanted a word.

That's how the recipient discovered earlier this week that he had been traded to the Cowboys.

"It's great," Cooper told reporters Wednesday after his first training with his new team. "There is the impression of a fresh start, as well as a new year at the university.

Cooper was not looking for a fresh start. He enjoyed his stay in Oakland.

But that was not a surprise either. Cooper had seen the Raiders swap Khalil Mack and had heard rumors that he could be next.

The recipient packed his bags and was on a plane to Dallas less than 24 hours after talking to McKenzie. He leaves the Bay Area with 225 receptions for 3,183 yards and 19 touchdowns.

Oakland took Cooper with the fourth pick of the 2015 draft. He responded with two consecutive 1,000-yard seasons and had two appearances at the Pro Bowl. But Cooper's production has dropped from the last season and a half.

Inconsistent? The 24-year-old has 116 and 128-yard games this season, both better than any Cowboys catcher. But he was limited to 17 yards or less in his other four games.

What does it bring to the Cowboys' spray offense?

"I bring a lot of gaming skills," Cooper said. "I can stretch the defense, all these things.

"I'll leave that to you to see."

Most of the work that Cooper got with quarterback Dak Prescott Wednesday during training on Wednesday was to chart some exercise trajectories, but he took a few reps during team times. Both players plan to work together during the week off – players have five days off from Friday – but have not scheduled it yet.

"I really like the way he throws the ball," Cooper said. "It's a good ball."

Cooper met with the journalists crammed around his locker for seven minutes. Defender DeMarcus Lawrence intervened at one point to ask some questions.

Lawrence is one of the many players present in the Dallas locker room to join Cooper in the hours following the transaction. What did he say to the newest receiver of the Cowboys?

"Yeah, that's none of your business," Lawrence said. "I mean, if I needed you to know, I would have sent you a text message too.

"I contacted him and welcomed him at the end, next question."

The concussion that put Cooper out of play in his last game against the Raiders is no longer a problem. He erased the protocol.

The offensive system of the Cowboys is different from that used with the Raiders, but Cooper said it was not difficult. He intends to work overtime to be ready for the team's game against Tennessee on November 5th.

"I've been playing football all my life," Cooper said. "You just have to be a good student, and I think I am that.
