Dallas Cowboys: Dak Prescott accepts the challenge of Landon Collins, but that's what a quarter of the Cowboys can not avoid

FRISCO – Dak Prescott did not spend much time on social networks this week.

Given the content of the comments, it is for the better.

But that does not mean that a quarter of the Cowboys have been totally isolated. He sort of heard Landon Collins's thoughts. Security in New York said that if the Giants focused on stopping Ezekiel Elliott and putting the ball in Prescott's hands, their chances of winning the Sunday night game improve.

"The challenge has been accepted," Prescott said Thursday afternoon. "The challenge has been accepted."

The public anxiety swirling around Prescott is not limited to a bad opener. It is hard to dismiss what has happened as an aberration since this level of performance extends into November of last season.

Is Prescott the organization's quarterback and fans have begun to like the first 24 games of his career in the NFL, or one of the last nine games that seems to be going on? to be lost? Is he the cool competitor who makes great games at key moments or the one who has played only 170 yards and no touchdown in the loss to Carolina.

Prescott was sacked six times, lost a fumble and missed tied receivers during the 16-8 loss. He left a handful of big games in the field, and this can be a conservative estimate.

"It's a good way to say it, I missed a lot of games," Prescott said. "I just have to play better, that's what this week is about."

Offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said he had seen Prescott more determined in training this week. The quarterback agrees, saying that the only way he knows how to improve is to go to work, to put time and do it the right way.

Prescott relies on what he calls a large group of friends and family after bad games. He told the media that went down in his locker Thursday that he did not want to offend anyone, but he neither read nor heard what the critics said in recent days. Aside from a few random moments on Instagram, he has stayed away from social media since losing to the Panthers.

"For the most part, yes, I'm going," Prescott said. "It does not help me as a player, it does not help me as a person so it's not worth it."

This is what Prescott can not avoid: he has thrown more interceptions in the last nine games than he has done the first 24 and he has 42 yards less in the air. The quarterback who has thrown 39 touchdowns in his first season and a half has only six assists since.

The reasons are not hard to find. His reception team was not brilliant. Chemistry took a long time to develop with this new group, as many of them missed extended periods of injury at training camp.

There has been a noticeable decrease in protection. Prescott has been fired four or more times in four of the last nine games. He averaged 3.1 sacks in this sequence after only 1.46 in his first 24 games.

A popular theory is that Prescott must work more. But there is no insignificant difference in the amount and efficiency with which he ran during this nocturnal split with one notable exception.

Prescott ran for 10 touchdowns to start his Cowboys career and only two in the last nine games. He has lost four fumbles since last November, the same number as in his first 24 games.

"It's the way the game is played," Prescott said when asked if he should run anymore. "You can go back and watch the game and there are certain situations that I should have run and some situations running.

"It's all about doing it at the right time."

The tempo match worked for the Cowboys in the second half against Carolina. Look for more of this against the Giants in an attempt to skip the Prescott start and this offense. The painful ankle that put him on the record of the first two days of the week should not be a problem.

The problem is that Prescott needs to get back on his feet.

"You keep fighting, keep your head up," Prescott said. "Usually, if you do this with the right attitude and the right behavior, things usually work your way.

"That's what I'm doing."
