FRISCO, Texas – Dak Prescott remains, in his eyes, the long-term solution for the Dallas Cowboys, even after two turnovers played an important role in Monday's loss to the Tennessee Titans.
"Listen, Dak is the Dallas Cowboys quarterback," Jones told The 105.3 The Fan in Dallas on Tuesday. "He is young and he will be lying."
Prescott is under contract until 2019, but the Cowboys can begin negotiations on an extension after this season if they wish. What Jones did not say is what kind of extension he would be willing to give to Prescott. At the beginning of the season, it was thought that Prescott could consider a $ 100 million contract – which has become a standard for starting shifts – if he had a great year.
The Cowboys are 3-5 at the halfway mark and Prescott has 1660 yards with 10 touchdowns and five interceptions. He lost four fumbles and was sacked 28 times. He ran for 247 yards and two scores.
The Cowboys can wait for a contract after the 2019 season and would even have the option to use the Prescott franchise tag if needed. After leading the Cowboys to a 13-3 mark as a rookie in 2016, when he made 23 touchdown passes and only four interceptions to win the rookie of the year award, Prescott has a record 12-12 in his last 24 games with 32 touchdowns and 18 interceptions.
In the loss to the Titans, Prescott made a pass in the end zone and lost a fumble that resulted in two touchdowns in Tennessee.
"Tonight's game did not have an impact on my future in Dak Prescott," Jones said after the match.
