Authorities said the incident took place in the parking lot of a Shell gas station in South Dallas on Wednesday night.

The mother was identified by CNN affiliate KTVT as Michelle Booker.

The suspect was taken to the hospital and is in custody.
Booker stopped at the convenience store at the gas station while she was traveling to a family reunion on July 4, KTVT reported. When she came out, she saw a man hunt in his SUV. The two young children of Booker were inside the car.

According to the police, Booker jumped into the car and told the suspect carjacker to stop and go out. When he did not stop the vehicle, Booker fired a pistol from his glove compartment and shot him in the head.

Booker told KTVT that she wanted to give the suspect a "warning shot".

"I'm not a killer or something, but I think, you know, defend what's mine," said Booker.

Ricky Wright faces two charges, according to police

The suspect hit the car being shot dead.

The suspect, later identified by police as Ricky Wright, 36, was taken to hospital, where he was in a serious but stable condition as of Thursday, according to KTVT. Wright is in custody and has been charged with two counts of unlawful detention and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, police said.

The police stated that no charges had been laid against Booker.
