Dalvin Cook will miss his first game of the 2018 season.
The Minnesota Vikings coach is missing for Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills, coach Mike Zimmer said Friday.
Cook missed out on training this week while he had suffered a thigh injury suffered last week. The second consecutive year ended the injury after the Week 2 draw with the Packers as cramps, but the Vikings took no chances with their workhorse.
Cook missed all but four games in 2017 due to a tear in the ACL.
In the place of Cook, Latavius Murray will be ahead of a defenseless Bills defense that ranks 22nd against the race in two weeks. Offensive backup Mike Boone could also see his first action in the regular season after an impressive pre-season.
Defensive end star Everson Griffen will also miss Sunday's tilt against Buffalo.
At home, against a Buffalo team that looked like a bison lost in a meadow for two weeks, the Vikings will have the opportunity to give two extra stallions two extra weeks of rest.
On the plus side for Minnesota, Zimmer said center Pat Elflein will play for the first time this season after being injured.
