The night 2 of the week 2 on "Dancing With the Stars" had several surprises beyond the glitz of Las Vegas: some were technical, others were sad but most concerned how much the majority of celebrities danced .
With the combined scores of these online votes and the judges' scores for both parties, only one couple was sent home. John Schneider and Emma Slater were threatened, as well as Danielle Umstead and Artem Chigvintsev, blind skier of the Paralympic Games, and Danielle and Artem were eliminated. Tom Bergeron, the host, said the "technical difficulties" with Monday night's phone lines were limiting the vote to online votes, and I guess the change was provoked.
Danielle has worked hard to learn to dance, despite her inability to see steps, routine or even her partner. She was resolutely challenged to perform ballroom dance routines and Artem had been challenged to find ways to teach it.
"I'm really sorry," said host Tom Bergeron after the announcement. "I want you to know that the appearance of all the faces of the couples you are competing with is as sad as you probably think of saying goodbye to you."
Co-host Erin Andrews added, "And the judges too, by the way," which was followed by "we love you" choirs from all over the stage.
"It's fun," Danielle said. "Thank you." Tom asked. "What do you want to say to your partner?"
She turned to Artem and said, "Thanks for everything. It's incredible.
Tom ends up saying, "You are such an inspiration. You really are."
The night theme of Las Vegas lacked some of the upbeat vibe of Monday's theme in New York, IMHO. It seemed a little uneven – lights and excitement, then a solemn tribute to the victims of the tragedy of the shooting a year ago, then back to the tangos and the pursuit, and then sad departure of a couple.
Clips from Celine Dion and Wayne Newton, appearances by the Blue Man Group and performances by Boyz II Men and Donny Osmond with the dancers were combined. Even four mini-pros from "Dancing With the Stars Jr.", as well as the show's hosts, Jordan Fisher and Frankie Muniz, have performed. Overall, there was a bit of "controlled chaos" that accompanied a live broadcast.
My three best dances
1. OK, I'm crazy about Milo Manheim and Witney Carson. They are so funny and animated together, and it is certainly not offensive that he resumes his choreography like crazy. He is only 17 years old and he seems really surprised that he is doing well. The two men had a tango on Tuesday night and I was wondering if he was ever going to get serious about the marches, but they managed and I suspect that they could get the top 10 this season, maybe in a week or two. Chief Justice Len Goodman said their dance was "loud, fast and clear". Score: two 9's and one 8 to match their score Monday night, for a total of 52 out of 60 possible.
2. Alexis Ren and Alan Bersten had to conquer a salsa, but Alan knows how to reassure her and help her focus. Judge Carrie Ann Inaba told Alexis: "You're great, but keep your heart tight." They performed a routine that earned them three points for a score of 24 and a total of 49.
3. Again, Mary Lou Retton and Sasha Farber did not receive the highest scores, but she was visibly more relaxed and confident of doing samba in a yellow feathered dress. Carrie Ann said, "We just made you experience the toughest Week 2 in Dancing With the Stars, and Len added," It was a real samba. I liked it. You came to dance and dance. Uh-oh
1. John Schneider and Emma Slater disappointed me. It seemed that their impressions of Elvis were more important than the dance. I really did not see a lot of things going on and I'm sure John could do that. As a result, their scores were 7 and a 6, three points less than their Charleston won the previous night. Hopefully they'll give up their impressions and focus on the dance.
2. Country Radio Personality Bobby Bones is a person who lives "above" and has to make it difficult for Sharna Burgess to continue to teach her the steps of dance. On Monday night, this madness manifested itself at the end of a respectable foxtrot, when he "let go of script" and decided to add a little bit of "wire dance" to the routine. Sharna was not happy and was sitting with her face in her palm.
