You're always interested in "Dancing With the Stars", even if you were furious about this season and promised never to watch it again.
This is the essence of the many emails I received regarding the future of the ABC Dance Competition. I asked if the long term success could be saved, and the future of the series is clearly uncertain after the fall of ratings for the 27th.th season.
The host, Tom Bergeron, tweeted that it was unlikely that fans would attend a spring edition, but "hopefully in the fall." "DWTS" has to come out of "American Idol".
This is another reason to be perverse in face of Bobby Bones' victory over the more deserving Juan Pablo Di Pace and Milo Manheim. Bones was not the best dancer, but his victory helps promote his expanded role as an in-house mentor in Idol's upcoming season.
If "DWTS" comes back, producers could start with a few simple fixes.
It's a dance show, so let's see the whole routine. Do not dress the dance with distracting lights or fog. Do not cut for the singer.
Let's see the couple review each motion. Show us their bodies, from head to toe – an approach that worked wonders for Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly.
Give more weight to the judges' ratings, so that "DWTS" is not reduced to a popularity contest.
Let the judges save worthy dancers when eliminations make no sense.
Bring back the finale of the two-night season. Everything has felt rushed this season.
You had suggestions. Here are some of them.
Qtip34 wrote: "What happened to the judges who actually criticized the dance? This is more like a popularity contest now, otherwise there would have been a final with the best current dancers. Len [Goodman] always manages to remember the rules and scores appropriately from time to time, but not at all like he did before. I might have a problem to look at next time – if there is a next time. "
Jean wrote: "All that ABC has to do is change the voting system. The public is rarely right. Give them about 30%, or better yet, just the vote of the judges! "
Shari wrote, "In my opinion, there should be no celebrities with previous dance experience. The competition should be entirely devoted to non-dancers and the progress made each week. People like Bobby Bones and Grocery Store Joe are more interesting than watching celebrities so accomplished that you can not say who is the celebrity and who is the pro. "
Annette wrote, "I have been fined a long time for 'DWTS' and I have missed no season. I was so disappointed with the final results. Juan or Milo should have won. I do not know if I'll ever see the show again [after] this final debacle of season. It was a great show that did not go as planned; he came out with a thud! "
Carmen let me have it: "Your article is ridiculous! Who are you to say who should win and who should not? In fact, the fans who have watched the series since season 1 were tired of competitors who already had dance experience and rivaled those who had none. These competitors were the most fun to watch because they witnessed their growth. The grocery Joe was this person this year. I did not like Bones' victory over Milo this year, but that's what it is and you do not have the right to try to convince the people in the series! "
I'm also a fan and I hope producers and ABC will help update a long-time favorite.
It would be a shame we saw the last "DWTS".
