"Get Out" star Daniel Kaluuya is at the head of the independent romance "Queen & Slim", written by Lena Waithe.

Waithe, known for her work on "Master of None" and "The Chi", wrote the script based on an original idea and treatment of best-selling author James Frey ("A Million Little Pieces") and a story of Frey and Waithe. "Queen & Slim" is an exploration of the social and political climate of America through the prism of a story of love that defies the genre. The film tells the story of a black man and a black woman who goes out on a first date after the two were arrested by a police officer at a traffic stop. They kill the policeman in self-defense and, instead of indulging, they go on the run.
Waithe produced the film through his company, Hillman Grad Productions, with the production company of Matsoukas De La Revolución Films and Frey's 3BlackDot. Andrew Coles and Michelle Knudsen are also producers.

" Queen & Slim "will be distributed by Universal Pictures worldwide with eOne distribution distribution in select territories, including the United Kingdom and Canada. The film will be released in North America on November 27, 2019.
This is the first greenlit movie under the recently announced Makeready distribution agreement with Universal. eOne is the largest investor in Makeready. Brad Weston's production company, Makeready, is funding the film, along with 3BlackDot
