"Queen & Slim" is an exploration of the social and political climate of America through the prism of a story of love that defies the genre. Waithe produced the film through his company, Hillman Grad Productions, with the production company of Matsoukas De La Revolución Films and Frey's 3BlackDot. Andrew Coles and Michelle Knudsen are also producers.

" Queen & Slim "will be distributed by Universal Pictures worldwide with eOne distribution distribution in select territories, including the United Kingdom and Canada. The film will be released in North America on November 27, 2019.

This is the first greenlit movie under the recently announced Makeready distribution agreement with Universal. eOne is the largest investor in Makeready. Brad Weston's production company, Makeready, is funding the film, along with 3BlackDot
