Authorities close transport links to and from the largest island in Denmark

Three people involved in a "serious crime" and traveling in a car registered in Sweden are hunted by the Danish police.

A statement says that all three ride in a black Volvo V90, registration ZBP 546, and that one should not approach it.

"Witnesses who see the vehicle must immediately contact the police," the statement said.

The Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reports that there was an abduction, although the police did not provide more details.

The authorities briefly closed the transport links to and from Denmark's largest island in their search, but then reopened them.

The Great Belt Bridge, on the island of Funen, was completely closed to cars, while ferries and trains were also affected.

A subsequent tweet from the Copenhagen police apologized for closing the transport, and stated that there was nothing new to report in the case.

Police armed with machine guns would have stopped a car on a highway west of the capital, Copenhagen (located in Zeeland), according to a photographer quoted in the newspaper Berlingske Tidende.

Dog patrols and a police helicopter would also be nearby.

Danish ferry operations have also been affected

"I've been in the Danish police for 41 years and I've never experienced this kind of operation," said former Danish spreadsheet Hans Jorgen Bonnichsen at the Danish tabloid BT.

Traffic information account TrafikNyt said the Great Belt Bridge and the Øresund Bridge, which connects Sweden to Denmark, have been reopened around 16:00 local time (14:00 GMT), with all other routes to and from the island – including ferries, which also suffered disturbances.
