David Beckham becomes frank about his marriage to Victoria Beckham.
The football star told Lisa Wilkinson about the The Sunday project that marriage requires a lot of work. They celebrated their 19th birthday this summer after being knotted in a sprawling castle in Ireland on July 4, 1999.
"Being married for too long, it's still a hard job," said David, 43, in a survey released by the Mirror. "It gets a little more complicated."
David also mentioned the couple's children: his seven-year-old daughter, Harper Seven, and his sons, Cruz David, 13, Romeo James, 16, and Brooklyn Joseph, 19.
"Sometimes it's the little things that make all the difference, and I noticed it with my children," he said. Reflecting on media attention, he added, "What we need to do is protect our children."

Victoria, 44, recently learned British Vogue that she ignores the rumors about their marriage.
"People have been inventing things about our relationship for 20 years. David and I have a habit of ignoring these nonsense and continuing as usual, "she said. "But these things have a wider impact on the people around us, and it's unfair."

"We both realize that we are stronger together than we are as individuals," noted Victoria. "Would any of us be in the position we are in now if we had not met and had not been together all these years before?" This is the family We are much stronger at six, than we would be if we were individuals. We respect this family connection and that is the key. "
In September, a source told People: "They have a real marriage and if they have problems, they manage them like any other couple".
