The Englishman David Carroll, 35, told his ex-wife Lucy Witchard, 31, that he had leukemia when meeting in 2006, according to The Guardian.

The marriage ended in 2015 and Carroll then joined the Aylestone Athletic RFC rugby club.
Former teammate Jonathan Hunt said Carroll told the club that he had cancer and that he had been sympathetic and had offered him food and drink "regularly".

Two fundraising events were also organized to help Carroll.
Mr Hunt added that Carroll had also told his teammates that he was suffering from heart problems and had to undergo surgery.
Carroll's lawyer, Gordon Heart, said he was a man of good character, but suffered from a personality disorder and that the fraud was a "one-off event," The Guardian reported.
Last week, he was sentenced to 26 weeks in prison on probation after being convicted of fraud by false declaration.
Carroll will also have to complete 180 hours of community service and pay over $ 3,600 in compensation.
The man will also not be able to contact Mrs. Eccles or Witchard after receiving a 12-month no-contact order.
