Former NBA boss David Stern led a long interview with Sports Illustrated in which he explained in detail why he had vetoed the trade that would have sent Chris Paul of the Pelicans to the Lakers in 2011.

He also tried his luck against the general manager of the Pelicans, Dell Demps, and how he could lose Anthony Davis.

Stern of the IS interview:

There was a job that Dell Demps wanted us to approve, and I said no, no, but he had told Daryl Morey and Mitch Kupchak that he had the power to do it and he did not do it. did not, "said Stern about the general manager of Houston Rockets, the former general manager of the Los Angeles Lakers." I said no. We just settled a lockout and you want me to approve a basketball exchange?

Despite a wave of violent reactions, Stern did not hesitate to make his decision.

"[Demps] had agreed to [trade Paul to the Lakers for] Kevin Martin and Luis Scola or something like that, and I said we could do better than that, "says Stern," … and the next exchange was [to the LA Clippers for] Eric Gordon and Al-Farouq Aminu and what we thought was a very good choice, the 10th choice, which turned out to be Austin Rivers. At least these three and some one else [center Chris Kaman].

"But Dell Demps is a lousy general manager and none of those players are currently in the team, and he could lose Anthony Davis," Stern said.

You must love David Stern, as he has never been.
