(STATS) – Guilford collected 61 points in a Division III victory last Saturday.

The Quakers should have been delighted to score the same total when they faced an FCS opponent on Thursday night.

There was just one problem – Davidson defeated Guilford by 30 for an improbable 91-61 win that made people wonder if the basketball season was going on.

Davidson has only played Sub-Division I programs to open the season, but his 3-0 record against Scott Abell, the freshman, is the Wildcats' best start since 2000 It's also the first time the Pioneer Football League has won in a season since it's finished 4-7 in 2011.

"It's the most important statistic – the 3-0 mark," Abell said. "We really have our option at an extremely high level – I'm not sure I've seen it like that before."
