A newly betrothed woman was brutally stabbed repeatedly while she was jogging near her home in Washington, DC on Tuesday night.

In a desperate attempt to save her own life, 35-year-old Wendy Karina Martinez fell into a Chinese restaurant covered in her own blood. Once inside, Martinez collapsed, prompting patrons to rush to his side, police chief Peter Newsham explained at a press conference Wednesday.

In surveillance images obtained from the restaurant, we can see spectators who are trying to revive Martinez pending the arrival of the SME, said Chief Newsham.

Martinez was then transported to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead later.

While the investigation is underway, Chief Newsham believes that it was a "random attack."

"It's one of the disturbing types of incidents that sometimes happen in big cities, but that seems like a singular incident."

One can see the suspect, who was captured by a nearby surveillance camera, fleeing the scene in what appears to be a mustard sweatshirt.

"The best thing we can do right now is to identify the suspect," Newsham said. "We will get to the bottom of things."

The murder weapon – a knife – was found near the scene.

Also in the press conference, Chief Newsham described Martinez as a "passionate runner" who spent most of his evenings running around the city.

In addition to his athleticism, Martinez has been chief of staff for FiscalNote, a private software, data and media company based in Washington, DC.

"The entire FiscalNote family is shocked and deeply saddened to learn that Wendy Martinez, our chief of staff, was killed last night," said FiscalNote. written on Twitter.

"Wendy was an invaluable member of our team and a dynamic member of the community. Our thoughts and prayers are with Wendy's family and friends.
