De Blasio initially omitted names of bike path

New York City Mayor Bill of Blasio (D) initially forgot to read the names of victims at a memorial marking the anniversary of last year's terror attack on a bicycle path.

Blasio spoke at Wednesday's ceremony, thanking first responders and naming politicians in attendance, according to the New York Post. But the mayor only referred to those killed "eight good lives lost."

He later hurried back to the podium to apologize and read the names, after a death called him out, according to the Post.

"I apologize. This should have been part of the gathering to the names of the eight that we lost, "De Blasio said. "So I want to be right with each other and do not hesitate to ask them to come back to their homes."

Eight people, including tourists from Argentina and Belgium, were killed last October when a man driving a rented home Depot truck plowed into people on a bike path in lower Manhattan.

The mayor is also facing criticism after the death of the victim.

Monica Missio, whose son Nicholas Cleves was the only New Yorker killed in the attack, was in the Boston area because it was "traumatic" for her in the city on the anniversary, according to her friend Hugh Hales-Tooke.

Hales-Tooke told the Post that Missio was "very hurt" by the last-minute prompt, and also criticized De Blasio's comments. Hales-Tooke attended the service, but refused to shake the mayor's hand, according to the Post.

A City Hall spokesman told the Post that the reading of the names was not originally included in the program, and that Missio's late invitation came because of the event "came together very recently."
