Minnesota Vikings defensive team Everson Griffen will resume the team's activities this week after dealing with a personal health problem over the past month, the team said on Tuesday.

"We have been in communication with Everson's medical professionals throughout this process and have based their recommendations on the appropriate next steps for Everson," said Vikings general manager Rick Spielman. a statement. "We are delighted to welcome Everson back to the Vikings and to see him with his teammates, his coaches and his staff, people who are deeply concerned about his well-being. We will continue to provide an ongoing support system for Everson and his family. "

Griffen has been away from the Vikings since Sept. 22, when he was involved in an incident at a downtown Minneapolis hotel. He threatened to shoot someone he could not get into his room. Griffen was later evaluated in a Minneapolis area hospital shortly thereafter.

The 30-year-old apologized last month on Instagram, to his teammates and "all those affected" by promising a return to football.

Griffin – who recorded 45 tackles and 13 sacks last season – has only played two games this year with the Vikings and has six tackles and a sack.

"I missed my teammates and coaches for several weeks," Griffen said in a statement. "While this is exciting and positive progress for me, it's just the next step in a longer process. I look forward to working with the guys again and contributing to this team in every way possible.

"My main goal remains to address my personal health and I hope the time will come when I will feel comfortable sharing my story and using my platform to raise awareness of these issues. I continue to be extremely grateful for the continued support of my family, my teammates, the Vikings organization and our great fans. "
