Death of actor Scott Wilson at 76

Scott Wilson – A veteran actor with more than 50 film credits, but most recently known for his role as Hershel Greene in "The Walking Dead" – has passed away … TMZ has learned.

Scott's representative, Dominic Mancini, tells us that he died of a complication of leukemia. Mancini said Wilson was "a national treasure, a calm voice and a sweet spirit to all who came into contact with him". We are told that he died peacefully at home at L.A.

Angela Kang, host of the "TWD" series, recently revealed during the televised debate at the New York Comic-Con that Scott – with former stars Sonequa Martin-Green and Jon Bernthal – would be back for the ninth season, which begins Sunday . .

Wilson's career in Hollywood began in 1967 when he landed a role in the classic film "In the Heat of the Night". He then starred in "In Cold Blood" and appears in several other legendary films such as "The Great Gatsby" and "Dead Man Walking".

Scott has been nominated for Golden Globe's Best Supporting Actor for playing Captain Billy Cupshaw in the 1980 film, "The Ninth Configuration".

In recent years Wilson has played in the film "Pearl Harbor" and played a recurring role in "CSI" … but became a fan favorite, in the film "Horrid" in the series "Walking Dead", of the lovable Hershel.

One remembers Hershel's death in the series as one of the most shocking and heartbreaking viewers.
