NASHVILLE, Tennessee – The Tennessee detainee, Edmund Zagorski, has again been placed under preventive supervision, in anticipation of his execution Thursday by an electric chair.
The Tennessee correctional department said on Tuesday that the detainees being monitored to death were placed in a cell next to the execution chamber where they were under surveillance 24 hours a day.
All visits are contactless until the last day before the execution, when the guard decides whether Zagorski can have a contact visit.
Zagorski was on the verge of death on Oct. 11, but got a late reprieve from Governor Bill Haslam despite a series of legal maneuvers. Among the issues raised, he had asked to die in an electric wheelchair, a method of execution faster and less painful than lethal injection.
Zagorski was sentenced in 1984 for the murder of two men during a drug-related transaction.
