Messing and Sarandon made headlines in the months leading up to the 2016 elections and rekindled their inaction in early September when Messing tweeted in Sarandon "STFU SUSAN".
At the time, Sarandon, 72, had told Variety she believed that Trump's presidency had inspired more women to run for office. (Sarandon later tweeted, his quotes were taken from their context.)

Messing also retweeted another answer saying that Hillary Clinton deserves praise for inspiring more women to run, not Trump.
