An employee or a person familiar with the inside of a former Detroit funeral home is the suspect most likely to have been involved in the discovery of human remains, police said.
The decomposed remains of 11 children were found Friday in the ceiling of a former funeral home in Detroit, authorities said.
Investigators from Michigan's licensing and regulatory affairs department received an anonymous letter explaining how to recover the bodies, neatly hidden under a false ceiling at the former Cantrell funeral home, the Detroit Free Press reported.
Some of the babies were apparently stillborn and were in a cardboard box concealed in the folding ceiling of a stairwell.
"Clearly, it was either an employee or someone who knew" the company and the building who hid the bodies, for unknown reasons, "said Lt. Brian Bowser, of the Detroit police.
After the bodies were discovered, the police used a cadaver-trained police dog to search the building.

The investigators sought to interview the former owner of the funeral home, Raymond Cantrell.

A body was kept from January to April before being cremated, according to state officials.
Other offenses include the non-filing of at least $ 21,000 by at least 13 clients who signed contracts for funeral services.
State investigators accused burial operators of fraud, deception, incompetence and gross negligence, according to an April report in its decision to close it.
The successor of the closed funeral home operates under the name of Cantrell Funeral Services, the newspaper said.
The company's voice mail service stated that no owners or managers were available to comment.
