SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah – A suspect has been killed and a police officer is in critical condition following a critical incident on Saturday in South Salt Lake.

According to executive officer Gary Keller of the South Salt Lake Police Department, officers were responding to reports of a robbery Saturday near 3500 S. West Temple.

Police have had contact with suspects in the robbery, Keller said. At one point, an officer was seriously injured during the incident and one of the suspects was shot and killed.

A second suspect was apprehended in the area, said Keller. He stated that all the suspects of the incident had been taken into account.

"Right now, we are investigating a massive crime scene," Keller said.

Keller said the investigators had emptied three crime scenes. One was the place of the robbery, the second was the place where a vehicle had been found after the escape of a suspect and the third was where the second suspect had been located by units of police K-9.

"An officer is in the hospital fighting for his life," said Keller, moved.

The identity of the officer or suspect killed was not disclosed at the time of this report by the police.
