Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh officially became man and wife on Wednesday in what was a hugely private affair, with only some pictures of the guests and the bride’s father being made public. The couple exchanged nuptial vows in a Konkani ceremony – Deepika is a Konkani by birth – at the stunning Villa del Balbianello overlooking Lake Como of Northern Italy.

On Thursday, the couple will solemnise their vows in an ‘Anand Karaj’ ceremony as part of the Sindhi (Ranveer’s family is Sindhi) customs. ‘Anand Karaj’ literally means ‘Blissful Union’, and the exchange of vows takes place during the day in a gurudwara, with the Sikh holy book, the ‘Guru Granth Sahib’, being placed at a prominent site.

Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone tied the knot in a gorgeous wedding on the banks of Lake Como, six years after they started dating. The actors met, and fell in love, on the sets of ‘Ram Leela’, their first film together.

The wedding was an extremely private and intimate affair, with only close family and friends making it to the guest list.

The first of the two ceremonies planned, a Konkani wedding took place today at Villa del Balbianello – a lakeside mansion featured in ‘Star Wars’ and ‘James Bond’ films. A Sindhi wedding will take place on Thursday.

The 700-year-old venue was decked up with white roses for the ceremony.

During the Anand Karaj ceremony, the bride and the groom sit next to each other, facing the Guru Granth Sahib. The ceremony starts with the couple and their parents standing up to offer Ardaas to ‘Waheguru’, after which ‘Shabads’ or hymns are sung. The marriage can be performed by any Amritdhari Sikh who explains to the couple the significance of marriage, the duties that each need to perform within the sacred relationship, and the general idea of leading a pious life.

After donning ivory and gold outfits for the Konkani rituals, Padukone is likely to wear a red Sabyasachi Mukherjee lehenga for today’s ceremony.

Ranveer-Deepika: Friends, Colleagues & Partners For Life

It’s Official!

14 Nov, 2018

‘Tis a November wedding for actors Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone. And unlike other big, fat Bollywood weddings, the couple decided to seal their 5-year romance at the luxurious Villa del Balbianello in Lake Como of Italy, in what is a largely private affair. The couple had first met on the sets of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela’ in 2012. And Cupid struck on the sets of Bhansali’s grand period drama. But unlike other B-town couples, who get bogged down by public scrutiny once their relationship details become public, they managed to keep it under the radar for a long time.(Image: Deepika Padukone/Instagram)

Meanwhile, the buzz is that after today’s ceremony – which is also expected to be family-only affair – the couple will finally share a picture on Twitter at 6:00 pm (India time). The wedding has been an extremely private affair with no photographs being leaked at all. All guests, apart from being given security stickers, were apparently told to not share any details on social media.

Deepika’s NRI cousin, Amit Padukone, wrote on Twitter that it was a “Magical week, steeped purely in love. Fairy-tale union of the two most kind, beautiful souls.” Amit, whose Twitter bio reads, “Native Californian tech geek”, welcomed Ranveer warmly into the family and said that “Ranveer had dethroned him as the filmiest”.
