Deer check this season deer firearms | New Democrats

For the firearms season, some of our hunters are going for a ride in the past. During the first two days of the firearm deer season, November 10-11, hunters must check their deer at a checkpoint. For many of our hunters, they remember putting their deer at a checkpoint when they were kids.

Now I'm going out with myself, but I've never had to register a deer at a checkpoint. I only knew Telecheck. The control station in Madison County this year will be located at the fireworks of the barefoot village at Cherokee Pass.

The checkpoint will collect mandatory samples for the test of chronic debilitating disease. Madison County has recently been added to the chronic debilitating disease management area because of MDC-positive deer found in Perry County.

Outside of the first two days of the firearms season, deer hunters must follow the usual Telecheck procedures, such as checking their deer on the day of shooting at 10 pm. If a hunter wishes to submit a voluntary sample for CWD screening, he may bring his deer to the Ozark Mountain Taxidermy just outside Cherokee Pass. Please call in advance to find out if the staff is readily available to take a sample.

Hunters in Madison County may also obtain a stall-free firearm license in addition to a firearm, in addition to the permit for any deer, each firearm, this fall. In addition, Madison County will be open for the first time to the Firearm Antlerless portion from November 30 to December 2.
