Next year, Rock Hall could have a new adorable classmate.

Def Leppard to be inducted into the 2019 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame The successes of the film "For Some Sugar on Me" join other nominees, including progressive rock icon Todd Rundgren, folk singer John Prine, pioneers New Wave, Devo and British band Roxy Music.

Stevie Nicks is also nominated for the first time as a solo artist, having been hosted at Rock Hall in 1998 as a member of the legendary rock band Fleetwood Mac. If she qualifies for the 2019 promotion in December, Nicks will become the first female artist to join the Hall a second time.

Voters voted "very largely" with this year's vote, said Rock Hall President and CEO Greg Harris. "It's exciting, because it represents the diversity of rock and roll."

After recent introductions of classic rock bands Lou Reed and Deep Purple, Rock Hall is embarking on a new wave of metal with Def Leppard and the Rage Against the Machine protest group (who have been back in the band since 2017).

"Def Leppard really started in the late '70s and ignited the whole genre," says Harris to the 80s rockers, who became eligible for inclusion in 2004. "When we look back, they were selling multi-platinum records year after year "year" and scored several top 10 singles such as "Love Bites", "Armageddon It" and "Hysteria".

Among the successful candidates are Janet Jackson and Radiohead, who wish to be inducted for the second year in a row. Rapper LL Cool J and Rufus, accompanied by Chaka Khan (each their fifth nominee this year), as well as bands from the '60s, The Zombies and MC5, are also in the running for the fourth time.

The 2019 induction ceremony will be held on March 29 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. New members will be elected by a group of more than 1,000 artists, historians and music industry professionals.

To be eligible for induction, artists must have released their first commercial record at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination (1993, for 2019 candidates).
