The nominations for the 2019 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are in, and the list includes Radiohead, Def Leppard, Stevie Nicks, Rage Against the Machine, The Cure, Devo, Janet Jackson, Kraftwerk, LL Cool J, Roxy Music , Todd Rundgren, John Prine, MC5, Rufus with Chaka Khan and the Zombies. Voters will be announced in December and inducted on March 29, 2019 at a ceremony at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. HBO will broadcast the event later next year.
To be eligible to vote this year, the first single or album of each candidate was released in 1993 or earlier. Several nominees have already participated in previous polls, but this is the first appearance of Def Leppard, Devo, Prine, Roxy Music, Nicks and Rundgren. Both Radiohead and Rage Against the Machine made their first appearance last year in their first eligibility period. This is the fifth appearance of Kraftwerk and LL Cool J, the fourth for Zombies, the third for Janet Jackson and Rufus with Chaka Khan and the second for Cure.
A voting group of more than 1,000 artists, historians, journalists and members of the music industry will select the new class. Once again, fans will have the opportunity to participate in the process. They can vote on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame website or visit the Cleveland Museum and make a selection in an interactive booth.
As in recent years, the Hall of Fame announced the individual members of each group that will be inducted. Def Leppard's current lineup is listed with the late Steve Clark and original guitarist Pete Willis.
Roxy Music's classic Bryan Ferry, Brian Eno, Andy Mackay, Phil Manzanera, Eddie Jobson and Paul Thompson have been successful, but none of their many bass players have done it. Roxy has not played with Brian Eno since his departure in 1973, which could lead to a historic meeting if the group was inducted.
The main members of the Kraftwerk range composed of Karl Bartos, Wolfgang Flür, Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider are listed, although only Hütter remains in the group, holding another meeting at the ceremony.
Over the years, many musicians have followed the Cure, but only Robert Smith, Porl Thompson, Perry Bamonte, Michael Dempsey, Simon Gallup, Lol Tolhurst, Boris Williams, Jason Cooper, Roger O'Donnell have been chosen.
Rufus starring Chaka Khan is largely inactive since their slide in 1983. Dennis Belfield, Al Ciner, Andre Fischer, Chaka Khan, Tony Maiden, Nate Morgan, Kevin Murphy, Ron Stockert and Bobby Watson should receive enough votes.
Radiohead has had the same lineup since its formation in 1985, so it's no shock if Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, Colin Greenwood, Ed O'Brien and Philip Selway have all been on the list. The big question is whether they will show up or not when they arrive. Last year, they had booked a South American show on the night of the induction ceremony before they learned that they had failed the cup. Talk to Rolling stone Last year, bassist Colin Greenwood said he was unsure whether his group mates would attend a ceremony at the Hall of Fame. "Maybe I'm doing low versions of everything like" Come on, you know this one! ", Did he declare. "I should play five times the bottom part of" Creep "."
