A man in central Michigan is disgusted after an incident on a Delta Air Lines flight involving a service dog and the mess he left behind.
The Bay City man had just boarded the plane for Miami when he noticed faeces all over the ground and in his seat. When he alerted the crew, he said that they had done almost nothing to help.
"The feces and everything was on me. I sat in it and it was on the seat, on the floor, the seat in front. And I was literally in it, "said Matthew Meehan, Delta's customer.
The Bay City resident spoke to TV5 via FaceTime about the nauseating and disgusting encounter he had on a recent flight between Atlanta and Miami.
He said sitting in his seat, he and the passenger next to him quickly discovered that they had been sitting in the saddles. They both ran to the front of the plane to clean up and were shocked by what the flight attendant gave them.
"I do not know why I was not offered something from the bio-feeding kit to clean me up. Instead, I was given two paper towels and one of these miniature bottles of Bombay Sapphire, a bottle of gin to clean me, "said Meehan.
Meehan said that it was only the beginning. After cleaning his hands and clothes with excrement, he stated that flight attendants continued to board the aircraft and told him that they could do nothing more. He came out of the plane to talk to a manager and told him that was his answer:
"At first, she sighed. What is your problem? And it's just that you know, I had to take a step back to say, okay, keep your composer. You do not want to be one of those people that we see on news being fired from an airplane. In the meantime, I am covered in droppings, "said Meehan.
Meehan stated that he and the other passengers had been obliged to cover the mess and withstand the odor during the two hours of flight.
Delta Air Lines has issued the following statement:
"On November 1, an Atlanta / Miami flight plane operating in 1949 was embarked before the end of the clean-up, following an incident that occurred during a previous flight with an assistance animal." . Delta apologizes to the customers affected by the incident and has worked to remedy the situation by offering a refund and additional compensation. The safety and health of our customers and employees is our top priority, and we are conducting a full investigation while following up with the right teams to prevent this from happening again. Upon landing in Miami, the aircraft was taken out of service to be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. "
Meehan acknowledged that he had been offered a refund, but he especially hoped that this incident would force Delta to review its current policy.
Mr Meehan also said that he had been contacted by dozens of lawyers since the incident, with the aim of taking charge of the case.
