According to the office of the California State Secretary, Cox is now in the lead with less than 400 votes. According to the website, Cox received 55,672 votes out of 55,236 votes from Valadao.

CNN had previously planned the race for Valadao, as well as other national news outlets. Voting reports after Election Night significantly reduced the margin and the latest Kern County update put Cox in the lead with just over 400 votes. CNN has now withdrawn its projection in the race.

The Democrats have gained a net gain of 38 seats and will hold 233 seats in the House of Representatives, according to CNN forecasts. Two races remain to be played: the CA-21 and the 2nd district of the Congress of New Mexico. The Democratic candidate leads in both races. Democrat Xochitl Torres Small leads Republican Yvette Herrell in the NM-2. Both districts are seats held by Republicans.

Republicans will hold 200 seats in the House, according to CNN forecasts.
