DENVER (CBS4) – The Denver area is awake Saturday and Saturday with plenty of sun and sunshine.
But a significant change is hiding less than 12 hours to the north.
A powerful Arctic front will invade the state on Saturday night and will drop temperatures to about 50 degrees in less than 36 hours.
It's part of life at altitude and it's happening in Denver at least a few times a year.
It is likely that Denver beats two temperature records with this system. Sunday's high and Monday's low are probably the coldest ever observed on these dates.
Latest Colorado weather forecasts: Arctic cold, snow arrive tonight
Although snow is anticipated, the storm moves too fast to drop large amounts of snow. Current forecasts are 4 to 9 inches in the mountains and foothills, 2 to 5 inches in Denver and along the I-25 urban corridor.
The biggest story will be the cold weather and potential travel issues with the first accumulated snow accumulated in the season.
