As an integrated development project, the Indian government decided on 22 November 2018 to build the Kartarpur road corridor to the international border between India and Pakistan.

It will allow Sikh pilgrims to visit the iconic Gurudwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur.

On November 15, 2018, India and Pakistan announced that they would build corridors to allow Sikh pilgrims to travel to the holy sanctuary without a visa. Corridor will also help them to cross and return without having to obtain a visa.

In Kartarpur, Guru Nanak had brought the Sikh community together. He lived there for 18 years until 1539. The Gurudwara Darbar Sahib is built at the place where he breathed his last breath.

From Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur district, the Indian corridor begins. It extends to the international border between India and Pakistan. The project corridor is to be developed by the National Highways Authority of India and will be funded by the Government of India. The project corridor includes four lanes, a service road and all other equipment suitable for pilgrims wishing to travel to Gurudwara Darbar Sahib, Kartarpur, Pakistan.

Between India and Pakistan, this corridor will serve as a historical landmark. It will also boost tourism, as more and more pilgrims visit the sacred shrine throughout the year between two countries, the statement said.
