Despite his choice of gambling, Ryan Fitzpatrick is more Jam NBA than Grand Theft Auto Vice City now.
At least that's what DeSean Jackson said on NFL Total Access Monday, when he said the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were to stay with Fitzpatrick as a starting quarterback if he was still playing when Jameis Winston returned from suspension.
"He's been on fire right now," Jackson told NFL Network's Scott Hanson and Willie McGinest on Monday. "With the way the team rallies behind him and just plays football, you have to honor him, you can not take the hot man, you have the hot fire right now, it's like NBA Jam. the habit of playing the NBA Jam – the one who has this burning shot must keep shooting, dude.
"It's not my decision but I'm sure [coach] Dagger [Koetter] and [offensive coordinator Todd] Monken and the guys who make these calls, they will make sure that they stay on fire until the fire is out. "
It's hard to argue with Jackson's feeling. Fitzpatrick has amassed more than 400 yards of consecutive wins and is currently leading the league with yards (819) and a pass mark among the quarterbacks (151.5). Jackson played a big part in the Bucs offense, recording consecutive games of 100 yards.
Koetter may not want to talk about it, but it would be hard to imagine the Bucs giving the ball to Winston if Fitzpatrick made another outstanding offensive performance in Week 3 against the Pittsburgh Steelers next week.
Until Fitzmagic's boomshakalaka hot streak escapes dazzle dazzle downtown, the Buccaneers should probably continue with Fitzpatrick as their starter.
