PORT DICKSON, Oct. 13 – Pakatan Harapan's (PH) candidate, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, said he is satisfied with the voter turnout in today's by-election, which the electoral commission has set at 17 % at 10 o'clock.

The elected president of PKR, who is working on his return to active politics, expressed his belief that the turnout would increase later.

"It's slower than usual but it's not bad because I checked with the last list at 10am and it's quite satisfactory.

"But people are expecting a higher turnout because they worry about the rain tonight, but it seems like people are coming out now in larger numbers. We hope for the best, "he said during his meeting with Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK), Telok Kemang, here today.

Dressed in a white shirt and brown pants, Anwar arrived at 10:53 and quickly made his round to meet voters and supporters who greeted him impatiently.

Lt. Col. Mohd Nazari Mokhtar, PAS candidate, and his entourage arrived at the same location at 11:07.

Both candidates warmly greeted each other before continuing with their respective programs.

The independent candidate Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, the accuser of Anwar in Sodomy II, was also present at school during the visit of Anwar.

Saiful noted the low participation rate and predicted that this would mean problems for the main contenders.

"Currently, the turnout is pretty low, but as an underdog, I'm not worried.

"These are the main candidates who should be concerned," Saiful said.

Six candidates are running in today's poll. Other runners are Tan Mo Mohd Isa Abdul Samad, Stevie Chan Long Ken, Ken Chew Yuen and Lau Seck Yan.

The old state mentri besar Isa is the only one among the six to be able to vote today; the others are not registered voters in the constituency.
