The Oklahoma City Thunder is able to breathe a sigh of relief at Thanksgiving Day.
Rookie goaltender Hamidou Diallo was taken off the field on a stretcher while he remained 7:17 minutes in the 123-95 win over the road against the Golden State Warriors. By the thunder, he avoided serious injuries after the evaluation of doctors by X-rays and Warriors.
Diallo's left leg was stabilized while he was being led by the applause of the Oracle Arena crowd. Diallo was credited with bouncing Jonas Jerebko's missed layup when they both fell. Clearly in pain, Diallo was away from the field and spent several minutes under the basket.
Royce Young of ESPN reports that Diallo came out of the locker room with a shoe on his left foot and was using crutches. Diallo was apparently in a good mood, however, when he left the arena – some somewhat surprising news considering the severity of the play.
Young reports that the initial fear regarding Diallo was that he possibly fractured his left leg. Thunder striker Paul George has described Diallo's injury as an ankle sprain, although the team has not yet officially announced what would be Diallo's injury.
"I was hoping that by praying, it was nothing serious, that it was not his knee," George told ESPN after the match. "I think we can all say that it's the best news that it was his ankle and that it was a sprain."
"We're just finding ourselves in. When the guys go down, we're a family and we have to have our brother's back, and that's what we're going to do," said guard Russell Westbrook.
In a loss Monday in Sacramento, Diallo became the first rookie in the Thunder group to score at least 7 out of 7. He made his two 3-point attempts on the 18-point road.
In addition to Diallo's injury, other Thunder players lost in the win against Golden State. Terrance Ferguson came back from an absence of two games while he was hosting a baby, then dropped to 5:41 of the first quarter with a sprained left ankle and did not return. Nerlens Noel received stitches after being hit in the face in the second quarter.
