The split of Prince Charles and Princess Diana 26 years ago shocked the world.
The queen is believed to have written to the unhappy married couple to recommend divorce.
But Prince Philip openly sided with his daughter-in-law when things got complicated between her and Charles, and a match dug up between him and Diana shows what he really thought of his son getting divorced from the popular princess.
In a letter written in 1992, Philip told Diana her disapproval of the queen of their son's love life, reports RSVP live.
The unearned letters expose Philip's disapproval of his son's love life, calling him "silly" for having risked "everything with Camilla for a man in his position".
Signed with love with "the dearest love, Pa," Philip wrote, "We've never dreamed that he might want to leave you for her.
"I can not imagine anyone in their minds leaving you for Camilla.
"Such a perspective has never even entered our heads."
Philip also expressed his sympathy and support for Diana and offered to become a mediator in the war raging between her and her ex-husband Charles.

He mentioned in the letter: "I can only repeat what I have already said, if I am invited, I will always do my best to help you and Charles to the best of my abilities."
"But I am quite ready to admit that I have no talent as a marriage counselor."
Diana was entrusted to her private secretary at the time, Patrick Jephson, who stated that the support of her in-laws was of great importance to her.
Patrick said: "Finally, there was written evidence that this had been recognized, recognized and that there was sympathy for her."
Although Philip was sensitive to the situation, he also explained to Diana that he would not support her in her new love affairs.

He wrote: "We do not approve of either having lovers."
He also stated that Diana was partly responsible for the breakup of her marriage and that of Charles.
"Can you honestly look in your heart and say that Charles's relationship with Camilla has nothing to do with your behavior towards him in your marriage?"
The details of Charles and Diana's rock wedding were first revealed to the public during the period when these letters were written.
And in 1992, a number of royal scandals took place, keeping the family in the public eye for the rest of the year.
In March of the same year, Prince Andrew and Sarah "Fergie" Ferguson separated and, a few months later, Fergie was photographed sucking on the toes of US magnate John Bryan during his vacation.
In April, Princess Anne announced that she would divorce Captain Mark Phillips.
And if all that was not dramatic enough, intimate phone conversations between Princess Diana and a close friend James Gibney were leaked and published by The Sun.
In private phone calls, Diana suggested to James that her situation with Charles and Camilla was like something that would happen to a character from EastEnders.
