Google has replaced its managing director in the doldrums of cloud computing.
Diane Greene, general manager of Google's cloud sector, will remain in office until January of next year. However, she will still retain her position as director for Alphabet, the parent company of Google.
According to CNBC, the replacement of Green is due to disappointing results in the cloud sector. When Greene took the role of Google Cloud three years ago, Silicon Valley hoped that Google Cloud would break the existing territory of Amazon and Microsoft. However, Google's cloud market share remained close to 6%. Amazon Web Services still occupies a dominant position with 34% of the market, with Microsoft ranking second only to 15%, but Google is behind IBM – both with 7 unique numbers.
According to Diane Greene of NYTimes, the continuation of its contracts with the Pentagon for artificial intelligence technology has caused an uprising at Google.
In an article published on her blog by the company, Ms. Greene said that she had first told her friends and family that she was planning to use Google Cloud for two years only, but that she had stayed there for three years.
