In a confusing moment at the 2018 Emmy Awards, eagle-eyed fans thought they saw Donald Glover in the crowd Atlanta lateral character. (He also plays the main character of the Earn series.)

Glover, who created and wrote the Emmy-nominated show, was missing from the mat, prompting fans to think he might have skipped the ceremony even though he had been nominated four times. But in a quick flash, his Atlanta Supporting character Teddy Perkins was caught in the crowd, throwing fans into a foolish attempt to decipher if it was really Glover on the seat.

The actor, 34, played the mysterious character in an episode of the second season of the series, where Lakeith Stanfield shows up in a scary mansion where Perkins resides. Viewers likened him to Michael Jackson, because Perkins said he was a kid and he seemed to have bleached his dark skin, though he blamed his lighter complexion for a health problem.

At first, Glover did not admit to playing Perkins in the series, although later he talked about the whole day's makeup experience.

But the whole Emmys situation was even more obscure when, a few minutes later, Glover himself was seen sitting in the audience.

It seems that Glover was able to call a friend to appear as Perkins, since his stylist Ilaria Urbanati told PEOPLE, before the show, Glover's Gucci look – which he left. Urbanati explained that her old black-and-white photo look she saw.

"I just think he's too low to play and I sort of put those stories in my head and he follows them," Urbanati said. He understands that it is a creative and fun process and that it does not mean that we are serious and that we play.

Glover was nominated for the lead actor in a humorous series and wrote for a comedy series for Atlanta, guest actor in a comic series for Saturday Night Live and directed for a humorous series for FUBU.

The 70th Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by Michael Che and Colin Jost, are broadcast live from the NBC's Microsoft Theater on NBC.
