Football legend Diego Maradona was reportedly taken to hospital Tuesday night after experiencing physical difficulties following the dramatic escape from the World Cup in St. Petersburg.

The former World Cup winner was in an executive box as the late winner of Marcus Rojo sealed a 2-1 triumph that saved Argentina from an early exit from the tournament.

A few minutes after the final whistle, Maradona needed help to leave her suite, seeming to stumble while being helped by associates, revealed on images posted on social networks.

Shortly after, according to Diego Cora of ESPN Deportes, the medical staff was summoned while Maradona was lying on a chair a few steps from where he had watched the game before the decision was made. take him to a local establishment.

"Maradona had to be treated by doctors and taken to the hospital," writes Cora on Twitter.

Several videos and online photographs of Maradona, taken before and during the game, seemed to show him in a heightened state. The TV cameras even showed him a hi-middle finger to an unknown target in the moments that followed Rojo's goal.

ESPN Brazil also reported that Maradona had been transported to the hospital. London's independent newspaper, citing an unnamed "Argentinean source," reported that Maradona had been "stabilized".

Later Tuesday night, Cora shared the latest news on his Twitter account from the president of the Latino television channel TeleSUR, showing that Maradona was preparing to board a flight and later to Moscow.

On Wednesday morning, Maradona posted an update on his Facebook page stating that he is doing well after health warnings.

Maradona is present at the tournament as a FIFA ambassador and has participated in all matches for Argentina, the country he led in World Cup in 1986, helped by the infamous goal of Hand of God in the quarterfinals against England.
