Maryland has earned its first commitment since last September, when wide receiver Dino Tomlin announced his commitment to the Terrapins. Tomlin is a three-star catcher and the son of Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin.

The 6-foot, 163-pound Shady Side Academy rookie in Pittsburgh also has links to the Maryland program as her uncle, Ed Tomlin, played football there in the 1980s.

"I think it's a place where I can develop and compete with the best," said Tomlin.

Tomlin is Maryland's first commitment since his coach, DJ Durkin, was sacked last week after an investigation into the program's culture and the death of offensive lineman Jordan McNair. The Terps lost Virginia's late defensive back, Trey Rucker, after Durkin's dismissal, and got one at Tomlin.

Maryland now has 10 engagements in the 2019 class, one of which is rated four stars in the Tayvion Land athlete.
