McDONOUGH – Daunte Gibbs, Director of Planning and Economic Development for Henry County, has been selected to participate in the Piedmont Henry Hospital's annual Real Men Wear Pink campaign.

Gibbs joins a small group of 10 men to serve as ambassadors for breast cancer awareness and will serve as one in the month of October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Gibbs said in a press release that cancer, one way or another, had an impact on his family.

"I am convinced that as a collective community we should not sit idly by," Gibbs said. "Education is the best equalizer and the more we understand as a whole, the greater our probability of not perishing due to lack of knowledge."

The hospital's Real Men Wear Pink campaign is in its 10th year and aims to promote early detection of breast cancer through education and awareness. The 10 men from Henry County have become involved in raising public awareness of breast cancer to show that it is an important issue for everyone.

Gibbs intends to use social media to promote early detection and said he would collaborate with family and friends to spread the word and spread information to churches, businesses , neighbors and community organizations. He will also use his non-profit organization, Heart to Help, to create awareness opportunities.
