Fans of Star Trek: Discovery will soon be launching their Vulcan greetings, as space travelers with their favorite pointy ears will make their debut in the second season to come. At the New York Comic Con 2018, a new (bearded!) Spock has made his first appearance in a trailer for the new season, due out on January 17, 2019.
During the debate, Ethan Peck, who will perform the famous scientific officer, recalled the hearing process: "It was absolutely outrageous. The audition was long and at first I did not know what I was reading. I knew it was for Star Trek and this guy was struggling with emotion and logic. And at the very end, I found out who it was and I thought, "Oh, my God, I can not believe it," and I had a panic attack at the last meeting with [Executive Director Alex] Kurtzman and about two days later, I said to myself, "You know what, even if it does not suit me, what an incredible experience to rub arms with this character and this world." And I received a text from the cast The director, Orly Sitowitz, said: "Welcome aboard, Mr. Spock." I was so shocked that I sat around the corner and cried for about 15 minutes. I was so upset and delighted. I will never forget this moment. "
According to Peck, his Spock will be a kind of forerunner of the Spock of the original series. "The Spock of the original series is kind of a light at the end of the tunnel," said Peck. "We need to start Spock in a place where he becomes what we see in the Enterprise with Kirk."
The second season of Discovery will also feature another familiar figure from Enterprise, Captain Christopher Pike, who will be starring Anson Mount. In the panel, Executive Director Heather Kadin recognized the challenge of playing new actors as beloved classics, while remaining behind casting choices for the new season. "Obviously, we did not take lightly the casting of Spock or Pike. But you also want the actor to impose himself, and I think that's what Anson and Ethan did. So it's a bearded Spock.
