Disney's new video streaming service needs some heroes, but it turns to some old Marvel villains who have been drawn to the light.
Scarlet Loki by Tom Hiddleston and Scarlet Witch by Elizabeth Olsen could each get their own limited series on the platform, which should be launched at the end of 2019, confirmed sources at EW.
This would bring a significant firepower from Marvel to Disney's service, which will also include a Star wars series led by Iron Man and The jungle Book filmmaker Jon Favreau.
Disney will need such powers to attract new viewers, especially in a market already saturated with Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and other streaming services.
The original programming that refers to the beloved characters or franchises has proven to be essential in attracting subscribers.
CBS All Access has turned to Star Trek to attract viewers – starting with the current Discovery and a series project Jean-Luc Picard with Patrick Stewart returning to his The next generation role. The DC Universe application, meanwhile, launches itself with a new approach Titans.
No writer or director has yet been attached to the Loki or Scarlet Witch shows, but VarietyJustin Kroll, who announced the news, reports that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, the driving force between the Marvel Cinematic Universe universe, would participate in program development.
