Doctor Who: release date of season 11, trailer, plot details and more

[ad_1]

In a little over a week, Doctor Who fans will board the Tardis for another season of the long-running British science fiction series. This season, which officially started on October 7th, just about everything is new – the logo, the companions, the showrunner and especially the Doctor herself. Yes, himself.

For the first time in the 55 years of Doctor Who's story, the main character will be performed by a woman, Jodie Whittaker. She is the 13th actor to play the role that changed hands so often because of the character's ability to regenerate into a new body instead of dying (go for it).

The first episode is entitled The Woman Who Fell to Earth and written by new showrunner Chris Chibnall. Richard Trenholm of CNET had a look and review the episode here.

Whether you're totally caught up or trained in a pocket universe, here's a glimpse of everything we know about it for the coming season.

Doctor What?

For the unknown, Doctor Who dates back to 1963. It's the story of an alien called the Doctor who travels through space and time, always unstable, with a fit vessel. of a police box called the Tardis. And relative dimension in the space), that he flew. And yes, the Tardis is bigger on the inside.

The show can last ten years after decade, because the Doctor is a Time Lord of the planet Gallifrey, and the Time Lords have the power to regenerate. So, when an actor wants to split the series (or get kicked out), the Doctor gets a new face and new personality quirks, but theoretically, the character is the same person.

Doctor Who is a British institution and the basis of Saturday night television. In the United States, it has gained popularity in recent years after the reboot of the series in 2005 with the ninth and tenth doctors, played by Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant.

It was thought that there was a ceiling on the number of possible regenerations of the Doctor (12), but during the Christmas special when Matt Smith's Eleventh Doctor became Peter Capaldi's Twelfth Doctor, the Time Lords granted him more regenerations.

On the way, the Doctor meets people who end up traveling with him in time or in the most remote parts of the universe to save maybe a handful of people stranded on a spaceship or, you know, the fate of humanity. He has a knack for meeting bad guys like Daleks, Cybermen, Weeping Angels and others, ranging from campy to creepy.

Release date and where to look

Doctor Who Season 11 begins on Sunday, October 7th. Yes, Sunday – a slight start to the show that ends at the end of the weekend.

Meet the new doctor

After the Twelfth Doctor, played by Capaldi, announced that he would leave after three seasons, we started talking about who was going to receive the keys of the Tardis. In July 2017, the BBC announced that Jodie Whittaker would win the concert.

"As a feminist, as a woman, as an actor, as a human being, as a woman, she wants to go beyond herself and challenge herself without being restrained by what you are told and can do. 'T be, "said Whittaker in a Q & A on the BBC's website for Doctor Who.

As one would expect, not all Internet users were happy that the doctor was played by a woman, although there was an uproar before the role was entrusted to someone else. One who is not a white man.

Peter Davidson, who played the fifth doctor from 1981 to 1984, initially lamented that boys are losing an important role model. Others, like Colin Baker, who played the Sixth Doctor from 1984 to 1986, replied that the boys certainly had other heroes to watch, plus the previous decades of the series. "You do not have to be the sort of someone to be a role model," he said, also calling it "changing cast".

A female doctor should not be a complete surprise – over the years, there has been a handful of clues that Time Lords could change sex. In the sixth season of the restart, Matt Smith 's doctor referred to another Time Lord called the Corsair who had regenerated into a woman. More recently, the best friend / nemesis of the Doctor (that is complicated) the Master, has been regenerated as a woman and is called Missy.

In one new trailer for the seasonIn mid-September, we clearly understood that Whittaker was the Doctor.

Let's not forget Doctor Who who receives a new showrunner. Chris Chibnall, who has written for broadcasts such as Broadchurch and Doctors Who Torchwood, a BBC drama, replaces Steven Moffat. Written episodes of Chibnall for the science fiction series in the past, so he's no stranger to the series. In addition, he worked in Broadchurch with Whittaker and David Tennant.

companions

The space can be an isolated place.

As the seasons go by, the Doctor has tended to travel with companions who often abandon the world they know when they see a life that revolves around the cosmos, thus saving the day. But more than just sightseeing, the companions served as a moral and ethical compass, emotional anchor, friends and even love.

And yet, the doctor still faces the problem of attachment to companions who do not always survive their adventures, and the guilt and sadness that accompany farewell to another.

Mandip Gill, Bradley Walsh and Tosin Cole join Jodie Whittaker for the season 11 adventures.

If there is one thing you can rely on Doctor Who, it's a periodic refresh of the actors. These are the new stars:

  • The presenter and presenter Bradley Walsh as a fellow Graham O Brien
  • The former soap star, Mandip Gill, as companion Yasmin Khan
  • Tosin Cole, former soap star, as a companion Ryan Sinclair

The casting of Whittaker opens the possibility of a new dynamic on the Tardis. A teaser presenting a first look at the three companions as the Doctor made his debut early in the World Cup, and a trailer for the new season abandoned on July 19th at San Diego Comic-Con 2018.

During a Comic-Con Press ConferenceGill says that his character, Yasmin, or Yas, in short, is a 19-year-old who has a job but wants more life. Meanwhile, Cole has described his character Ryan as "a guy" who accompanies the stream but can be noisy.

What we know about the plot

When we stopped at the Christmas Special 2017, Capaldi became Whittaker after a monologue on the importance of being kind, choosing love and never eating pears. When Whittaker, as a thirteenth doctor, looks at her reflection for the first time, she says, "Oh, great! with a big smile. But his joy is short-lived because the Tardis is out of control and is sucked in as a fireball apparently consumes the inside. And so the first episode is entitled The Woman Who Falls on Earth.

The new companions of the Doctor come from Sheffield, a city in the center of England with a rich history and a heritage of steel production. The show is likely to come back there, similar to the way previous seasons often went to Cardiff.

There has been speculation that some of the upcoming episodes will be historic, including one about Rosa Parks. There have also been some conversations that the season could be built around a single scenario. In June 2017, when he was addressing the Royal Television Society, he was asked if the BBC would allow such a thing and he replied, "Yes, what the BBC was looking for was risk and l & # 39; audacity ".

The show is famous for its recurring bad guys like the evil Daleks and Cybermen, but Chibnall promises new villains for season 11.
