According to the US National Library of Medicine, small uterine fibroids are common in women of childbearing age. But those weighing more than 25 pounds are rare because symptoms such as heavy menstrual bleeding and back pain or leg pain are usually present before their size becomes dangerous. These fibroids can also be found during routine pelvic examinations.

According to the report, the largest tumor of this type taken from a surviving patient weighed 100 pounds.
