Hurricane Florence revolves around the Atlantic Ocean, about 2,000 kilometers from the east coast of the United States. Even the best forecasters in the world can not say for sure that this powerful Category 4 storm is well positioned to hit the East Coast next week.
But this forecast is almost 100% certain: there will be a big storm of hype in social media and the scary campaign on Twitter and Facebook.
In fact, it has already started, social media users posting pictures of long-range forecasts by various weather computer models.
Some recent projections of the model take the path from Florence to Bermuda, then head north and sea. Others – including the popular European model – push Florence to the east coast of the United States.
Even if it's just one cycle, or one cycle, of a computer model that tries to simulate a whole series of atmospheric conditions in the next seven days, just generate a big buzz on social media .
