A couple died dead last week while traveling to a beautiful panorama in Yosemite National Park, the National Park Service announced.

Vishnu Viswanath, 29, and Meenakshi "Minaxi" Moorthy, 30, had hiked up to Taft Point, a viewpoint offering breathtaking views through a steep dive into the Yosemite Valley. Both fell to about 800 feet, the NPS said.

The Park Rangers found their bodies last Thursday, using technical climbing, rappel and helicopter support from the California Highway Patrol.

"We still have no clear idea of ​​what happened," Yosemite National Park spokesman Jamie Richards told Mercury News. "We are still trying to restore it."

"There is a balustrade at the belvedere but there are many places where you can go without balusters," she said. "Yosemite is a place by wild nature."

Viswanath and Moorthy were both born in India and married in 2009. They were alumni of the College of Engineering, Chengannur, in southern India. "Our heart goes out to the friends and family members of this lovely couple," wrote the college in a Facebook message. "May their souls rest in peace."

The couple has settled in the Bay Area since New York in June and has traveled extensively in recent years, visiting more than a dozen states and several countries, including Italy. , France, Belgium and the Maldives.

Moorthy documented her adventures on a blog called Holidays and HappilyEverAfters, posting happy snapshots of her husband and thoughts they had throughout their journey. Together they formed a "duet of dreamers," wrote Moorthy.

The couple visited the Grand Canyon in March. During their trip, Moorthy posted a photo on Instagram, his back turned to the camera, sitting on a ledge and watching a sunset.

"Many of us, including yours, are really followers of the rash attempts to stand on the edge of cliffs and skyscrapers," reads the caption of the photo, "but did you know that the gusts of wind can be FATALES? Is our life worth the picture? "

The couple's deaths are the most recent in Yosemite National Park this year. More than 10 people have died this year, reports the Washington Post.

In 2015, professional climber Dean Potter also died at Taft Point after jumping off the cliff, wearing a wetsuit, and crashed into the rocks with his mate Graham Hunt. Potter was internationally recognized as an experienced rider.
