A live shoot for a local news channel in Utah included a special cameo from a mysterious furry creature that led to an animated online debate: was it a mountain lion, a dog or another wild animal?
KUTV's Morgan Saxton shared a sequence of the random meeting on Twitter Wednesday, asking other people to help identify the creature.
"I think it's a dog, I'm not sure, but anyway," said Saxton as the animal followed her during filming. "There is some kind of creature below me."
Twitter users quickly proposed their catch.
"BYU cougar … but seriously, it's a mountain lion / a cougar," tweeted a person.
"Dogs do not walk like that, he has the same step as a cat, I vote for Mountain Lion," said another.
"It's 100% a mountain lion," said someone else.
Others have insisted that it was a dog.
"Very clearly a dog, the tail and the ears and the way he walks betray him," said one person.

"It's a dog, the mountain lions are walking more slowly," said a user.
The Natural Resources Division of Utah has confirmed that it will regain the true identity of the creature.
"Our biologists are trying to determine if the animal was a cougar," tweeted the wildlife department. "In the video, it's hard to say."
The officials added that they would visit the area and look for traces and other evidence.

It did not take long for them to identify the creature.
"CONFIRMED: I just spoke with @UtahDWR They think it's a dog, based on footprints," tweeted Saxton.
The reporter then shared a photo of the dog involved in the incident.
"THE MYSTERY RESOLVED: The owner of this guy who loves the cameras just sent us a picture of their puppy who made his way into my shoot this morning .. Come back anytime! #Talkofthetown," she joked.
The DWR then explained how he determined that the animal was certainly not a mountain lion.
"The ears are close together, larger and more pointed at the tips.-The tail seems shorter than the tail of a couguar.-We checked on the tracks, and that were well tracks of dogs , "tweeted the division.
