The NFL fined the Dolphins $ 30,000 and Adam Gase $ 15,000 for failing to accurately report Ryan Tannehill's practice in the week leading up to Miami's Week 6 game against the Bears.
Tannehill sat out a few reps in practice that had to be considered as a limited participant on the team's injury report. Instead, the Dolphins listed him as a full participant.
However, the league has cleared the Dolphins on the background of the investigation into the question of the questionable to the Bears game, which was the first of four Tannehill has missed because of the injury. The Dolphins would have been slapped with a great deal if the league discovered wrongdoing.
Tannehill tried to warm up the game but it was not possible. The league found that the Dolphins did not have a problem.
"We have been fully cooperative and transparent with the NFL throughout this process," said the Dolphins Wednesday evening. "We received the penalty and no further comment."
Tannehill suffered a capsule injury in his throwing shoulder Bengals defensive lineman Carlos Dunlap on Oct. 7 and has not played since.
Tannehill has already been ruled out for this Sunday's game in Green Bay, meaning he will have missed 25 of the Dolphins' last 30 games, including playoffs, due to injury.
The Dolphins believe Tannehill will play again this season and are hopeful he returns to action when they face the Colts in Week 12.
