President Donald Trump allegedly accused his former White House advisor, Don McGahn, of appointing special advocate Robert Mueller.
At their last meeting in the Oval Office earlier this month, Trump would have complained to McGahn that Mueller's investigation of Russia's interference in the 2016 presidential election had thrown a shadow on his presidency, according to CNN. While the president would have been "focused" on Mueller, he also congratulated the former White House council for the way he had handled other duties throughout his tenure in the US. west wing.
McGahn officially left his West Wing position on October 17th. His release was expected, Trump having previously announced that this departure would occur after the conclusion of the appointment process of Associate Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
The announcement made in August by Trump, namely that McGahn would leave, intervenes less than two weeks after a New York Times report revealed that he would have "cooperated widely" with the government. Mueller's investigation into electoral interference in Russia, participating in several interviews spread over 30 hours. The conversations would have upset Trump, who did not know the full extent of McGahn's discussions.
At the time, the New York Times described as "unusual" the decision of McGahn and other officials to cooperate fully with the special council's investigation. However, Trump said he had "allowed" McGahn to speak to Mueller's investigators and claimed that the Times had falsely hinted that McGahn had turned against him. He also claimed that McGahn's conversations with the Mueller team were part of the administration's desire to be "the most transparent of history".
The special council's investigation was the subject of harsh criticism from Trump and his congressional supporters, who claimed it was "a hunt". to witches "of a political nature. Mueller has so far obtained The guilty pleas of four former Trump associates – Paul Manafort, Michael Flynn, Richard Gates and George Papadopoulos – and have indicted more than a dozen Russian intelligence agents for having hacked at Democrats at the 2016 election.
Instead of McGahn, Emmet Flood, the lawyer who represented former President Bill Clinton during the impeachment process and who now heads Trump's legal strategy in Russia, temporarily occupies the House's advisory functions white. Flood joined Trump's legal team in May to "represent the president and the administration against the witch hunt in Russia," said White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on the occasion. .
Pat Cipollone is expected to take up her position soon and take a full-time position. However, the White House has not indicated when Cipollone will begin.
